Five-time GRAMMY Award-winning soul singer, songwriter, and producer Lalah Hathaway has officially released her highly anticipated new studio album, Made In Chicago.
Rooted in Hathaway’s signature warm, intimate, and profoundly soulful vocal delivery, Made In Chicago serves as a deeply personal homage to her hometown roots.
The conceptual foundation for the project grew organically out of a single vivid image. Hathaway envisioned herself in a leather coat, looking out at Lake Michigan with the sprawling Chicago skyline in the distance. From that specific visual, a flood of music came back to her, channeling the sounds, memories, and distinct energy that echoed her childhood in the city.
“I feel these songs live at the intersection of nostalgia and melancholy,” Hathaway shared regarding the emotional core of the record.
Across the album’s nine tracks, Hathaway masterfully traces her Chicago upbringing, effectively reimagining her past while actively pointing toward her future artistic direction.
To bring the evocative vision to life, Hathaway crafted the album alongside her longtime collaborator and co-producer, Phil Beaudreau. The lush, atmospheric production is further elevated by elite instrumental contributions from Moonchild saxophonist Amber Navran, saxophonist Hailey Niswanger, and acclaimed flutist Elena Pinderhughes.
